Here’s a clue: If you’re a yoga teacher, you represent 0.010% of the total.
The question about the number of yoga teachers in the UK was in my head the other day. So I checked.
According to finder.com, there are between 20,000-30,000 yoga classes taught in the UK each week. The average size of a class is around 15 people, which means that on average between 1.2 and 1.84 million people each month practice yoga! I’m blown away by these stats as I never knew that!
One of thousands yoga teachers
What about the number of yoga teachers? There are 10,000 yoga teachers in the UK, according to the same website. Ten thousand!
An ‘average’ yoga teacher teaches 2-3 classes a week. I know some teachers (especially in London) who teach 20+ classes a week, sometimes they are all in different parts of this big city! This is what I also did when I first started. I sometimes taught 4 classes back-to-back in one day. Looking back, I really don’t know how I did that. Especially since they were 4 hours of hot yoga!
Teaching Yoga can be a lonely business
Teaching yoga can be lonely! And I’m really curious about other yoga teachers and their classes. How many yoga classes do you teach / used to teach (before the pandemic)? What is the most comfortable amount of classes you can teach in a week? How do you manage your energy if you teach a lot? Have the student numbers changed (since before the pandemic)? Did you use to teach yoga but now you’ve changed careers?
I’d love to hear from you.
